In 2005, Young Black Women’s Society, Inc. was born of the need for an organization that offered women and girls of color the necessary resources and support to help them realize their full potential. Initially a group of five women, YBWS has provided membership to over 90 women in the Greater Boston Area and has and sponsored over 75 programs to the public. We continue to provide a platform for women and girls of color to obtain personal and professional development and we invite you to be a part of this ground breaking organization. MissionThe Young Black Women’s Society will lead and empower women and girls of color to develop their personal and professional lives by providing tools and access through social activities, professional development, civic engagement, leadership development and mentoring. VisionOur vision is to be the global organization that effectively empowers and develops the leadership of women and girls of color who are committed to improving their communities by improving themselves first. YBWS women will maximize their full potential and commit to making sure women of color have a voice, are civically engaged, attain and maintain leadership positions, mentor girls of color, support other women to achieve their goals, and hold their communities accountable to affect change. Purpose To provide a platform that supports the personal and professional goals of women and girls; To work collectively to resolve the concerns and challenges that impact women and girls of color; To develop YBWS members for effective leadership in their workplace and communities; To empower members to affect social and economic change; To collaborate with other persons, businesses and organizations to achieve mutual goals and help retain minority professionals in urban communities.
